Vedad Mešanović from Sarajevo is the 100,000th IB candidate
The IB is delighted to be celebrating its 100,000th IB candidate for the May 2010 examination session.
Since 1968, when the organization began, the IB has produced more than 600,000 Diploma Programme graduates. However, the milestone of 100,000 candidates being registered in one session highlights the IB’s worldwide growth and mirrors the vision of the IB’s 2020 strategy.
By 2020, it is projected that there will be 2.5 million students and 10,000 IB World Schools. The IB’s 2020 strategy will ensure that the IB can serve this huge and growing community.
Vedad Mešanović is an 18 year old student born in Sarajevo. Vedad represents his school “Druga gimnazija Sarajevo” as the registered 100,000th IB candidate in the May 2010 examination session.
He proudly says that he values the IB because “it is an exceptional educational platform that unites students from all over the world, providing them with an opportunity to live their dreams and fulfil their ambitions. I am delighted to be part of it.”
Once he has completed the Diploma Programme Vedad hopes to expand his skills and study abroad, ideally in the UK. He then hopes to use his background and education to work fostering developments between Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Vedad enjoys writing poetry, producing and recording music, and is a volunteer in many community activities. His passion is South East Europe and he enjoys travelling, the nature and cultural heritage of this region.
Vedad is supported by his mother, sister, friends and all at his IB World School. Vedad says that he “strives to become an individual who is responsible not only for its own wellbeing but for the wellbeing of our society.”
War
Bloody sunshine on my face,
Leaving my eyes covered with dark trace.
Breathing the air that we can not trust,
Walking on ice that is turning to dust.
Morning smell around my soul,
Standing in dark and waiting for sun to glow.
Believing in truth that we can not see,
Rising upon a wish - which we can not be.
We believe in truth and we are always trying,
We hold the aspect of it but the survival is dying.
Breezed in time – we can not walk,
Our mouth is closed but we want to talk.
