IB Americas council holds first meeting

The IB Americas Council held its first meeting in Miami, Florida, USA from 21-22 March. The Council was formed from the membership of the former IB Latin America Regional Council with five new members nominated from the former IB North America region.

Council membership is as varied as the region itself and includes representatives from Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and the United States who serve in various roles including heads of school and associations, associate superintendent, university admissions officials, leaders of educational organizations and business owners.

The purpose of the Council is to advise the Americas director on issues relating to strategy and planning. It also plays a critical role in keeping the director abreast of the needs and concerns of stakeholders in the region.

The formation of the Americas Council is part of the 2020 plan to build global capacity and to improve the level of support and service provided to IB World Schools.

The Council is scheduled to meet twice yearly with the next meeting scheduled for November 2009.
