21st IB Asia-Pacific Annual Regional Conference
6-9 October 2006
Almost 600 members of the IB Asia-Pacific community gathered at the Melia Hotel in the enchanting city of Hanoi, to attend the 21st Annual IB Asia-Pacific Regional Conference. The largest-ever regional conference, for 4 days this event featured over 40 presenters and 100 sessions investigating various facets of the theme “Values and Internationalism”.
Highlights at this years’ conference included an engaging and challenging keynote address by Dr Peter Vardy regarding the potential role of the IB in values education. Dr Vardy is Vice Principal of Heythrop College and one of the leading experts on Values Education in Britain, Australia and New Zealand. In other keynote addresses, Dr Mark Mason, Associate Professor in Philosophy and Educational Studies in the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong established a provocative philosophical framework for debate regarding the limits of tolerance, while Swamini Vimalananda, Director of the Chinmaya International Residential School in India opened participants eyes to the power of a broad and spiritual “vision” in values education.
