Teacher Trainer – IB Access Projects

Based in Saudi Arabia

Closing date: 30 October 2008

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a recognized leader in the field of international education.

The IB has a vacancy for two primary level teacher trainers for the IB-King Faisal Foundation (KFF) Teacher Training Project.

The goal of the IB-KFF Teacher Training Project is to “increase the number of students benefitting from a high-quality international education experience in Saudi Arabia and the Arabic-speaking World.”  The project represents an extraordinary opportunity to make a positive impact on education in Saudi Arabia and the region.

Initially, the project aims to provide elementary and middle school teachers at the King Faisal School in Riyadh with the skills and knowledge they need to enter into the Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme authorization process. In the long-term, however, the IB-KFF Project aims to develop a bank of new professional development materials for foundation teacher training, with the intention of creating a self-sustaining teacher training programme for the Arabic-speaking World.

The project aims to train the King Faisal School teachers in the fundamentals of child-centred, interactive education. Through accessible, dynamic workshops, the project will help teachers gradually discover for themselves the underlying principles—and the practical strategies—that will allow them to recast their role from sole authority to that of mentor, guide and coach.

In addition to regularly scheduled in-school workshops, trainers mentor teachers at the classroom level, helping the participants to apply the learning objectives in their everyday teaching.

The ideal candidates will have experience as a teacher and trainer of adults (or related experience, such as school coordinator). The post calls for an excellent knowledge of contemporary constructivist, learner-centred educational methods and experience living and working overseas.

Teacher trainers will be hired on a consultant basis for one year, with possible renewal. The salary and benefits package are competitive.
