Online Professional Learning Services Support Officer Ref 173

Salary:£13,316 - £17,756

Closing date:28 June 2007

Interview date: 18 July 2007

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the online professional learning services (OPLS) team within the IB’s professional development and research division. The OPLS team aims to build and nurture international online communities of practice.

The OPLS support officer provides the OPLS team with a) administrative, b) content management and c) user support services in three key areas.

  • the IB’s online curriculum centre (OCC)—a website for IB teachers
  • the workshop resource centre (WRC)—a website for IB workshop leaders
  • online workshop support.

The OCC is the primary method of communication between the IB and teachers delivering one or more of the IB’s three academic programmes. It is a web-based resource designed to facilitate the exchange of publications, resources, materials and ideas across a diverse range of online communities.

The OPLS support officer’s main area of responsibility is to act as a first point of contact for OCC users, dealing with queries and providing user support, including first-level technical support, largely by email and occasionally by telephone. Through the OCC mailbox, the OPLS support officer provides a high level of service to IB teachers and workshop leaders accessing the respective websites.

In addition, the OPLS support officer provides administrative support to the OPLS team, ensuring website content is uploaded accurately and to specification and reflects user needs.

With a good level of general office skills, you will have strong organizational skills, excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and a high degree of numeracy and literacy. You should be able to work in a team and be able to manage and plan your workload.

You should have a high degree of computing skills across a wide range of applications (eg. email and the Microsoft Office suite) and the ability to learn to use bespoke in-house software applications. You will be required to manage and upload website content and at times use basic HTML coding.

You should be experienced using the Internet and associated applications and have a good understanding of the typical issues/queries that a website user might have.

An understanding of Web 2.0 technologies and their application to both a business and educational context is desirable but not essential. The ability to work in French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
