Regional Head of Professional Development Ref 728a

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is committed to supporting the ongoing development of a worldwide professional learning community comprised of internationally minded teachers, school leaders and administrators. To that end the regions provide a comprehensive calendar of professional development workshops and conferences designed to help teachers and schools to better understand and deliver the three IB programmes. Through the provision of a wide variety of resources and development opportunities IB educators are challenged to constantly reflect upon and improve their practice.

This particular post is one of the key leadership posts on the IB Americas Leadership Team with a strong professional link to thought leadership from the Global Professional Development Director and the global PD team. In this leadership role, the post is responsible for articulating the PD strategy to internal and external stakeholders. The post is responsible for in-school workshops, regional workshops, and district workshops (Americas) offered directly by the IB as well as those offered through outsourced providers. The Head of Professional Development must also be knowledgeable about the IB’s global online workshops.

The post and the professional development department are responsible for developing a full calendar of professional development that comprises over 30 venues, over 1000 subject sessions in order to train approximately 25,000 teachers annually. The Regional Head of Professional Development also oversees the region’s conference and events department which is responsible for scheduling workshops, procuring accommodations (hotels and host schools) for in-house workshops and overall events logistics. This position also works closely with the IB Education Network (IBEN) Manager to schedule workshop leaders for the full calendar of workshops. Furthermore, the post works closely with a group of 16-20 contractor organizations, such as associations and universities, that provide professional development workshops on behalf of the IB.

The department also carries out elements of the global quality assurance frameworks (QAF) to make sure that global professional development standards are followed. The post will have a key link into the Global Professional Development Director and play a contributing role on the global professional development team.

The Regional Head of Professional Development will:

• Oversee professional development and the conference & events department within the region and contributes as a key member of the IB Americas management team in order to achieve the department’s goals and operate effectively on a regional and global level.
• Responsible for ensuring that processes relating to architecture of workshops and professional development delivery within the region are scheduled and implemented so as to meet or exceed all global standards and client expectations while following the IB Quality Assurance Framework.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, monitor and manage income and expenditure to achieve financial goals and to ensure best value and compliance with financial guidelines for the Professional Development team.
• Develop and maintain an effective relationship with schools and act as a strong internal advocate for school needs in order to improve the offerings, quality and effectiveness of professional development and to meet the needs of the IB Americas community.
• Serve as the region’s main knowledge resource, in alliance with the Regional Director, for professional development to ensure the IB is a leader within the market.
• Responsible for ensuring that processes relating to workshops and professional development within the region are scheduled and implemented to meet or exceed all global standards and client expectations.
• Responsible for ensuring that global policies relating to risk management, disaster recovery, quality assurance and internal audit are fully implemented across the professional development team to ensure compliance with IB’s guidelines and audit requirements.
• Supervision, recruitment, development and management of a team of full-time staff members (11) who facilitate the IB’s high quality professional development across the region to meet needs and demand of PD stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Advanced degree (MA, MS, MBA, EdD, or PhD) and/or a combination of experience, education and training that would provide the level of knowledge and ability required for the position
• Significant successful professional development, administrator experience, either in business, not-for-profit, or school administration
• Familiarity with current educational trends, and the dynamics driving public and private education in the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America
• Demonstrated leadership and teambuilding ability along with an ability to influence key stakeholders
• Experience creating and successfully managing a budget
• Demonstrated ability to create & implement new systems, and processes
• Ability to work within a fast paced and global environment
• Exemplary skills at managing, analyzing, and evaluating multiple and complex projects
• Exceptional organization, interpersonal and communication skills
• Extensive experience in planning meetings and events and working with contractor providers and/or external vendors
• Fluent in English
• Fluency in French and/or Spanish preferred

Location:
This post will be located in Maryland and spend significant time in New York between now and August 2010
