“Save to Rocks” – A CAS Initiative by Johnson Grammar School
I was excited when I visited the school & the students shared experiences with me. The experiences that they have had in the first month in the DP program at Johnson Grammar School have been truly, life changing. In actuality, it feels as though their brain has been re-wired, to think in a more holistic manner and they feel as though they are in a wide open space, with pleasance all around them. There are millions of highways, millions of choices, each one with its own aura, its own charm, and its own magical adventure that supplements their entire thought-process.
This is what their Grade 11 student for the Diploma Programme at Johnson Grammar School has to say.
"I would like to elaborate on this, and try my level best to put my thoughts in simple words. It all started with the first day… After entering the premises, the excitement flourished… and I was especially enthralled for I had to give the inaugural speech. It was a blast! It felt so delighting to convey my thoughts and feelings, my views and my suggestions to so many keen listeners, more so on the very first day… it was indeed an honor. The acceptance of our "Rock-climbing" proposal under CAS was like chocolate sprinkles in addition to a cherry on a cake!
As days passed, our excitement grew exponentially... Finally, the day had come!
We got onto our school bus to Gachibowli. We learnt what an important role they play in our lives and how human activities can lead to their degradation. Even an inch of rock takes millions of years to form... first into soil, then into rocks, igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary… depending on the conditions. We actually climbed on rocks, who had witnessed magnificent history, but who could not communicate with us, in a way we could understand… It made us realize indeed how important and resourceful geology could potentially be, to study life, before the invention of the written word…
It made us realize, that we are as tiny as a fine dot in the universe, but with a very high potential to succeed. We just have to hit the right buttons, input the correct password or make the most appropriate decisions… however, that's where the entire challenge lies… Thus we decided to start a club called “Save the Rocks” and started planning activities to spread awareness amongst the local community & in the city at large. We know the road is a rocky one but every long journey begins with a single step”.
Someone has said it right, "The start marks the beginning and is never the end of anything" and so I hope the CAS programme at Johnson Grammar School will be a torch bearer in sensitizing the citizens of Hyderabad.

Meeting with the Prime Minister
Dr Indu Shahani, the Sheriff of Mumbai, had the opportunity of meeting the Prime Minister,
Dr Manmohan Singh, in Delhi and to discuss with him issues relating to Higher Education in India. It was a memorable meeting as the Prime Minister responded positively to all the initiatives that had been undertaken in the University of Mumbai and in the State of Maharashtra. He strongly felt that it was very important to impart global skill sets to the Indian students and favoured Internationalisation of education.
That is good news for the IB in India!
