The majority of UK domiciled IB applicants stated on their application form that their ethnic group was White (78.6%). As with IB applicants, the majority of UK domiciled non IB applicants stated on their application form that their ethnic group was White (77.5%).  There were higher proportions of applicants classing themselves as Asian (10.5%) and Black (5.1%) in the non IB population compared to the IB population (7.0% and 2.3% respectively). This is illustrated in chart 8.1 below (an equal representation sits at 100 on the horizontal axis, over representation above and under representation below). A slightly higher proportion of those classing themselves as Mixed was present in the IB population compared to the non IB population (6.1% in IB and 2.7% in non IB).

Chart 8.2

chart8_2

Considering Tables 8.2a and b and Chart 8.2, in terms of applications receiving offers, those classing themselves as Asian or Black were under represented in the IB population relative to the IB population. Those classing themselves as Mixed were over represented in the non IB population relative to the IB population.

Tables 8.3 a and b look at accepted applicants by ethnic group.
