The proportions of male to female in both the IB and non IB populations were similar with 45.9% male applicants in IB and 45.7% male in non IB. The percentage of applications from male applicants was the same between the two populations, with 46.1% applications from males in IB and 46.1% applications from males in non IB.

Considering non EU applicants, 46.2% of applicants with the IB were male, broadly in line with the figures for UK (45.8%) and EU (45.7%). However for non IB non EU applicants, 58.0% of applicants were male, accounting for 58.1% of applications with only 42.0% female applicants accounting for 41.9% of applications.

From Tables 5.5 a and b, applications from female IB applicants had more success in terms of offers (37.5%) compared to applications from female non IB applicants (34.3%) despite there being similar percentages of applications from females in both groups (53.9% IB and 54.9% non IB – tables 5.1 a and b). 19.6% of applications from non IB female applicants were unsuccessful compared to 16.5% of IB female applicants.

For non EU applications, male non IB applicants had more unsuccessful applications (25.2%) compared to IB applicants (11.6%). Applications from female non IB applicants received 14.5% less offers than applications from female IB applicants.

Considering accepted applicants, the proportion of males and females accepted was similar between applicants taking the IB (46.4% male) and applicants not taking the IB (46.5% male). This broadly reflects the overall percentages of gender types that made applications (IB 45.9% male and non IB 45.7% male from Tables 5.1a and b).

In both UK and EU, the proportion of males and females accepted reflects the position seen in all applications of a roughly 45/55 split male to female. The position was similar for non EU accepted applicants taking the IB. For non IB non EU accepted applicants 57.8% of accepted applicants were male and 42.2% female resulting from the over representation of males in applications from this sector (Table 5.4b).
