With the solid organisation of the International Department in place, and the IB underway, the challenge for TRHS is how to develop further effective and sustainable international education across the curriculum, building on existing good practice.

This includes:

  • Extending all tutor group links with an overseas school (half of present Year 7 so far)
  • Structuring KS3 “Global Citizenship” opportunities-Autumn 2007-extending to Year 6 intake.
  • Involving “Core” subjects in IE partnerships-building on successes of 2006-7
  • Developing further Teaching & Learning and Leadership & Management projects with international schools - this summer the school’s T&L advisors discussed “Every Child Matters” with Russian counterparts and later on in the autumn this will include USA schools and Indonesia
  • Delivering languages through other subjects-pilot in year 7 this year
  • Measuring the impact of IE on our students’ progress
  • Making international learning a “natural part of the school”
  • Looking at IB MYP and IGCSEs and their application-working with feeder schools on IB PYP and international opportunties.

In October 2006, on a school visit, Jackie Kearns, senior leadership advisor for the British Council, described the school’s IE work as “outstanding and sophisticated”, by going to the heart of the curriculum, and not just being an “add-on”.

This is what we are constantly trying to strive towards and attain supported by colleagues, leadership, agencies, the wider school community and our students.  It makes our school distinct and it is the type of educational opportunity we should be offering our learning communities through focussed international leadership.
